Royal Geographical Society honours Andy Eavis

We are very happy to announce that our former Chair, Andy Eavis has been awarded a Royal Medal by the Royal Geographical Society. This medal is approved by Her Majesty The Queen,and are among the highest honours of their kind in the world. They have been presented since the
1830s and past recipients include Sir David Attenborough, Dame Fiona Reynolds and Lindsey Hilsum.

Andy Eavis is awarded the 2021 Founder’s Medal for his significant contribution to cave exploration of some of the largest cave systems of the world, making original discoveries, for over 50 years.

Andy would like to emphasise that this is largely a recognition for cave exploration generally and not really a personal award. In addition the official announcement should have said leadership of cave exploring expeditions rather than mapping and surveying.
