Council Elections – Deadline Monday 26th July (Midnight)

There are multiple positions on council open for election and it has never been easier to run for a role! We thought a bit of a brief explanation of the roles would be helpful in demystifying the BCA bureaucracy and hopefully encourage people to run.

The Chair: The person who chairs the National Council meetings, and makes up part of the BCA Executive. This role determines how much time is allocated for discussion of topics, and is responsible for guiding and ensuring meetings come to clear decisions. A term lasts 3 years.

The Secretary: Co-ordinates the bureaucracy of the BCA, and also makes up part of the BCA Executive. They compile agendas, are responsible for implementing the Manual of Operations and are responsible for ensuring minutes are recorded and available. A term lasts 3 years.

The Training Officer*: The Training Officer is responsible for convening the training committee. This committee helps regions with delivering training to recreational cavers. A term lasts 3 years.

The Equipment & Techniques Officer*: The E&T Officer is responsible for convening the E&T committee. This committee helps regions with things like the anchor placement scheme. A term lasts 3 years.

Publications & Information Officer**: The P&I Officer is responsible for BCA Publishing and its Information services. This has radically changed over the last few years and has a working group. You can find out more here. A term lasts 3 years.

Group Representatives (2 posts): These are two year terms elected from the general membership to represent the views of clubs.

Individual Member Representatives (2 posts): These are two year terms elected from the general membership to represent the views of individual cavers.

*There is a proposal merging Training and E&T. The role would become a Council appointment in this case but it is recommended that you run for the role in case the proposal does not pass.

**There is a proposal pending which would standardise the P&I role, removing its automatic vote. This would also turn it into a Council appointment and would not preclude you from running for a representative role.

You cannot register to vote through the login page – votes will be emailed to members much closer to the time. All you need to qualify for a vote is a valid BCA membership with an up to date email address. There will be a helpline to assist with anyone not getting their votes through at the time.
