Interesting item on the BCC website http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5273292.stm

In caving, the moment we venture underground we have to deal with risk - in fact, that is part of the fun.

In our safety obssed world the sport of caving has come under pressure.
Teachers unwilling to take pupils caving. Student Unions expelling caving clubs.

It seems the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has realised a sense of proportions is required. It is attempting to redress the balance.

Quote:
No one wants a world where children, in fact anyone, is wrapped in cotton wool, prevented from taking any risks and scared of endeavour.

HSC Chairman wrote:
My message is that if you're using health and safety to stop everyday activities - get a life and let others get on with theirs.
